Christmas Music 411
I love Christmas music, and, as I have previously mentioned, I will not start listening until after Thanksgiving.  So you could imagine my excitement at being able to listen to the Holly station on my XM radio whenever I am in the car.  There is just something special about Christmas music and the way it makes me feel!  On this note, I thought I would share some of my favorite Christmas...

I'm not sure...
if it is the newly arrived Christmas season? Or the fact that I just had (in my mind)major surgery? Or maybe the large amount of family time over the Thanksgiving holiday? Or even the fact that I am really feeling ready to have kids? But I have been feeling super emotional lately (which is really very out-of-character for me), almost to the point of describing it as weepy!!  I don’t know...

Thanksgiving Thankfulness
I gave my students a homework assignment for the holiday weekend: to share with their family what they are thankful for.  i figured that in the last few minutes of Thanksgiving day, I should as well. I am thankful for my job…a place that I enjoy going to each day that has provided my with more than just co-workers, but a family, and work that, at times drives my crazy, but makes me feel...

Adios Appendix
I haven’t been around tumblr much since Tuesday.  I last posted about parent/teacher conferences that had started.  I actually enjoy conference week and was feeling pretty prepared to get them done and over with…until Wednesday. Around 10:15 on Wednesday I felt a sharp, continuous pain on my right side.  At first I though it was just stomach cramps, but that was not the case.  I knew...

It's Parent/Teacher Conference week at school...
Here are some things that do not make this week any easier: My cold/flu/sickness thing that I came down with on Saturday.  It makes me sound like a man, and it’s never an attractive thing to be coughing and/or sneezing while meeting with parents. Break outs.  Not only am I the youngest teacher at my school (by 10 years no less), my face decided to rebel against me and break out yesterday....

“What worked for our teachers not only may not work for us, it may actually work...”
– Dr. Jane Bluestein I just started an online class called “Solving Classroom Discipline Problems” because I need a bit of help when it comes to discipline in the classroom.  This quote is from our first lesson and something I have been struggling with ever since I started teaching. Kids...

Wednesday Confession
I am a serious procrastinator. I don’t know why or what it is. It’s the way I have always been, and I don’t think it will ever change! I am a rule follower. Besides my parents rules when I was in high school, I generally always follow the rules…school rules, unwritten rules, rules of etiquette, sporting rules, workplace rules, etc. I just pulled out a grey hair.

Best rainy day/fall/winter food:
Stew!  My mom’s stew to be exact.  I have never ventured into making it, nor do I want to! I figure if mom does it so well, why should I try to replicate it?? :)   With stormy skies all day today, it made it the perfect dinner, and, in my opinion, it is a seriously underrated food!  After a weekend full of hockey games and work, it was a comforting and homey end to the weekend.

American Revolution Capture the Flag: How Students... →
“It’s no secret to students and teachers alike: Do something interactive, something that actively engages all students, and you will not only pique their interest but you will also create lasting memories and connect with students in a meaningful way that really allows them to understand and explore a concept. If you can do this in your classroom, while tossing in a classic childhood game...

missjacobi: carolinek: I can’t believe I am linking to Perez Hilton, but I can’t find it anywhere else. And oh my GOD! It is so awesome! I will change it when I find a new link, but in the meantime GO TO THERE! Edited to add: This is apparently the most welcoming and friendly all boys high school in America. They are all standing around listening intently and dancing to a bunch of teenage...

Really??
I just got an email from the airline that we are flying with to Vegas in January notifying me that they are changing the time of our flight!  It’s been changed from 7:20pm to 4:00pm!  That’s a pretty big jump in time…especially since this means that the bell is barely going to ring to end the school day and I am going to be racing to the airport! Thank goodness the airport is 10...

Wednesday Confession
I have been thinking about posting this for a few weeks now, but there are times when I think, “Who reading this really cares?”  Sometimes I feel like what I post is not relevant, cool, interesting, or anything that anyone really cares about.  I still post it anyway, mainly because I really like blogging, even though there are times I feel like I’m not very good at it.  It is fun...

LOL OMO*
The scene: During math today, we were discussing shapes, planes, and angles. My LOL moment: While talking about how a plane is a flat surface that we can put shapes on, I said, “Shapes on a Plane” which immediately made me think of Snakes on a Plane (the movie), which, of course, made me laugh out loud for the sheer fact that that movie is ridiculously hilarious in its absurdity and...
